RANCHI, JHARKHAND – June 5, 2025 – The Department of Zoology at St. Xavier's College, Ranchi, proudly observed World Environment Day 2025 today with a special program emphasizing environmental stewardship and sustainable practices. The celebration, held at the college premises, engaged 34 enthusiastic interns currently participating in the department's one-month internship program.
The event underscored the critical importance of environmental protection and the role of youth in fostering a greener future. A key highlight of the program was the distribution of plant saplings to all participating interns, encouraging them to take direct action in expanding green cover and promoting biodiversity.
The program was graced by the esteemed presence of Dr. Bharti Singh Raipat, Head of the Department of Zoology, who led the celebration. She was joined by other notable faculty members, including Dr. Priya Srivastava, Dr. Manoj Kumar, Dr. Rakesh Ranjan, and Ms. Mouli Chakroborty.
During the program, Dr. Bharti Singh Raipat addressed the interns, inspiring them with insights into environmental conservation and the urgent need for collective action. Dr. Priya Srivastava and Dr. Manoj Kumar also shared their valuable perspectives, enriching the interns' understanding of ecological challenges and solutions.
Adding a unique dimension to the event, Ms. Prerna Kumari, an intern from Ranchi Women's College, Ranchi, shared her personal views on environmental responsibility, highlighting the impact of such initiatives on young minds.
The World Environment Day celebration concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Rakesh Ranjan and Ms. Mouli Chakroborty, expressing gratitude to all participants and faculty for making the event a success.
"Our aim with this World Environment Day celebration was to instill a sense of responsibility and proactive engagement in our interns towards environmental conservation," said Dr. Bharti Singh Raipat. "By involving them directly through sapling distribution and insightful discussions, we hope to empower them to become environmental champions in their communities."
