29-05-2025: MOU - St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi Signs MoU with Puresh Daily Foods Pvt. Ltd. to Foster Collaboration in Skill-Based Training, Education & Research

Ranchi, 29 May 2025:

The Department of Zoology, St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi and Puresh Daily Foods Pvt. Ltd., Ranchi entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 29th May 2025, marking a significant step toward strengthening academia-industry collaboration.

The MoU establishes a collaborative framework for both institutions to engage in skill-based training, education, and research, aiming to equip students with industry-relevant knowledge and promote innovation through shared expertise.

The signing ceremony took place in the esteemed presence of Principal Fr. Dr. Robert Pradeep Kujur, Dr. Bharti Singh Raipat, Head of the Department of Zoology, Mr. Manish Piyush, Director of Puresh Daily Foods Pvt. Ltd., and Mr. Aditya Kumar, representing the company.

Also present on the occasion were faculty members of the Department of Zoology:

Dr. N. V. A. Rao, Dr. Ritesh Kumar Shukla, Dr. Priya Srivastava, Dr. Manoj Kumar, Dr. Pipas Kumar, and Dr. Rakesh Ranjan.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Fr. Dr. Robert Pradeep Kujur emphasized the importance of bridging academic knowledge with real-world applications, while Mr. Manish Piyush expressed his enthusiasm for creating platforms for student engagement, research, and sustainable development in the dairy and food sectors.

This MoU reflects a shared commitment to promoting innovation, fostering talent, and enhancing employability through cooperative initiatives between academia and industry.

5 March, 2025 Visit to Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra Morhabadi Ranchi

To fulfill the requirement of BSc Zoology (New Education Policy) and MSc Zoology (Choice Based Credit System) course, under the able guidance of Dr. Bharti Singh Raipat, Head of Zoology Department, St. Xavier's College Ranchi, 17 students of Undergraduate Semester 5 Zoology Honors and 10 students of MSc Zoology (Entomology Specialization) reached Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Divyayan for an educational tour related to beekeeping. The students got the opportunity to see the beekeeping technique and honey processing unit. Dr. Ritesh Kumar Shukla, Dr. Manoj Kumar and Miss Mouli Chakraborty were present from the department during the educational tour. The students learned about beekeeping, animal husbandry etc.

2 March, 2024: An Invited Talk on Emerging Trends in Scientific Research and Education Climate change, Data science and AI by Dr. Sunil Sinha

 

The department of Zoology of St. Xavier's College and IQAC organized an Invited talk on Emerging trends in Scientific Research and Education - Climate change, Data Science, and AI delivered by Dr. Sunil K. Sinha (Professor and Director, Scientific Research and Development Centre, Virginia Tech University, U.S.A. He highlighed the use of AI for conservation of underground water. Fr. Dr. Alex Ekka (Rector), Fr. Dr. Nabor Lakra (Principal), Dr. Shiv Kumar (IQAC), Dr. Ritesh Shukla, Dr. Priya Srivastava, Dr. Manoj Kumar, Dr. Pipas Kumar, Dr. Ramita Kumari, Mouli Chakroborty and others were present during the programme.

World Migratory Bird Day and Pokhran II Celebration, 13th May, 2023

 Lecture on Peaceful use of nuclear energy to commemorate World Migratory Bird Day and Pokhran II Celebration Organized by Eco Task Force (Vandeep), Department of Zoology, St. Xavier's College, Ranchi in collaboration with 1/3 COY, St. Xavier's College, Ranchi (3 JH BN) Bihar and Jharkhand Directorate and Internal Quality Assurance Cell on 13th May, 2023; 12:30 pm onwards.

Fieldwork on Habitat evaluation for wildlife conservation and managament Semester VI (session 20-23)

 The students of Semester VI visited the plantations opposite the Hawai Nagar, near Birsa Chowk, for a fieldwork on habitat evaluation for wildlife conservation and management.

Two students John Osga and Mansha Aftab Khan of Semester IV M.Sc. Zoology (Entomology Section), participated and delivered oral presentation in the Online International Conference on Frontiers in Biological Science (INCFBS - 2023) organized by Department of Zoology, Dapoli Urban Bank Senior Science College, Dapoli, Dist. Ratnagiri, Maharashtra (India) on Saturday, 11th March, 2023 under the Guidance of Dr. Manoj Kumar , Department of Zoology, St. Xavier's College, Ranchi.

World wetlands day celebration, 02 February, 2023

 World Wetlands Day 2023 was celebrated in the department under the able guidance of Dr. Bharti Singh Raipat (HoD, Department of Zoology). During the event several competitions such as - poster presentation, speech and quiz competition based on environmental awareness were held. The event was marked by the presence of Dr. Bharti Singh Raipat, Dr. Priya Srivastava, Dr. Manoj Kumar,  Dr. Pipas Kumar, and Mr. Julian Ekka. The program ended with Certificate distribution to the winners of the competitions. 

Bird awareness program, 25th January 2023

 Under the able guidance of Dr. Bharti Singh Raipat (H.O.D.), A bird awareness program was hosted by the Department of Zoology, St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi in collaboration with IBPS, Dhanbad. The posters were inaugurated by Dr. Fr. Nabol Lakra, Principal, St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi. Mr AK Sahay was the chief guest for the program. Various Posters were displayed depicting messages about bird conservation and awareness. Dr. Pipas Kumar, Dr. Ajay Srivastava (H. O. D., Botany), Dr. A. Dutta and others were present during the event.

08 February, 2023, Educational Visit to Birsa Biological Park, Chakla Ormanjhi. Semester I (2022-2025)

 A total of 68 students accompanied by Dr. Manoj Kumar, Mouli Chakraborty visited the Birsa Biological Park, Chakla, Ormanjhi for partial fulfilment of graduation degree in Zoology. The bust left he college premises at 9.30 am and reached the destination at 10.30 am.

Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park, is one of the most beautiful and progressive zoos in India having 104 ha of area of mildly undulating topography with natural dry deciduous Sal forests an dwater bodies in and around it. the park is situated on both sides of National Highway 33, at about 20 km from Ranchi city. On the northern side of the NH is the botanical section consisting an area of 23 ha, while the larger part of park on the southern side of NH is the zoological section or the main zoo spread over an area of 81 ha.

The students observed the behaviour of various animals housed in the Zoo (ex-situ conservation) including the rare White Tiger and Black panther and various exotic birds. 

In the second part of the visit, the students visited the Ranchi Aquarium.
