Group Report 2: from 16th Aug to 20th Aug 2017.
DAY-1:
Programme on the First Day
We reached by
08.30a.m and a brief introduction was conducted by Madam Mohsina Khatoon,
Co-coordinator of the programme to help us know what our aim was to attend the workshop and training,
thereafter lectures were given on the topics of our interest and requirement.
(a) Lecture
by Sir Anil - Sericulture- components, origin of silk, types.
(b) Lecture
by Sir Dr.G.S Singh– Cultivation of food crops of silkworm.
(c) Lecture
by Sir Lalan, ADI, Ranchi- Post cocoon activities, technologies used.
DAY-II:
Programme on the Second Day
Practical by
Sir Shekhar - Field visit, observation of habits of 5th instar
larva, Cocoon formation.
(a) Lecture by
Sir Dr.G.S.Singh - Mulberry cultivation
(b) Lecture by
Sir Dr.G.P.Singh – Diseases of silkworm, Pest management control and
prevention.
(c)Lecture by
Sir A Prasad - Spinning and Harvesting of cocoon.
DAY-III : The
day was devoted to making us understand the post cocoon
activities and life cycle of silkworm
(a) Lecture by Sir Shekhar - Life Cycle of silkworm (Bombyx
mori)
(b) Lecture
and practical by Sir Anil Post cocoon activities-reeling, spinning
(c) Lecture
by Sir Dr.A H Naqvi - Components of silk, types of silk in Jharkhand
DAY-IV: Program
of field visit to different places
(a) Visit
to Central Tasar Research Institute,
Nagri- We reached there by 10.00a.m and were told about different types of
silk, diseases and central measures, saw different varieties of cocoon,
Dr.J
P Sing Sir- Explained about Cocoonase, explained about the research going on
there observed the post cocoon activities – Reeling, spinning, handloom frame
loom wearing etc.
(b) Thereafter
we visited the farm at Ratu where we were guided by Aalok Kumar Sir, PPO, Ratu
who told us about the pilot project being taken up at the farm. We saw the
rearing of Mulberry worms, their moulting.
That
was end the 4th day of the workshop
DAY-V: The lectures conducted on the fifth day were
mainly on the Economical aspects of sericulture
(a) Lecture
by Sir Shekhar – Precautions in silkworm rearing
(b) Lecture
by Sir Anil – Different types of cocoon.
(c) Lecture
by Sir Aalok – Sericultural aspects in India.
(d) Lecture
by Sir Dr.Nirajan Kumar - Employment generation in sericulture

At the end of
the workshop there was a programme marking the closing of the training and
certificate distribution took place. On the occasion all our teachers,
scientists, coordinator who guided
us through the way were present,
along with our HOD Madam, Dr Bharati Singh Raipat, and the Director of
Central Tasar Research and Training Institute, Nagari, Sir Dr. Ajit Kumar Sinha
were also present, who motivated us by
their powerful words.
It was just the
training that end but the spark of new beginning and a new understanding about
sericulture has been lit amongst us.
Overall the
workshop was a new exposure both in terms of practical and theoretical
knowledge on sericulture and we had a wonderful experience.
We are thankful
to our HOD Madam, Dr.Bharati Singh Raipat and the Department of Zoology to have
arranged this for us.
We are also
grateful to the College Administration and Fr.Principal Dr.Nicholas Tete, to
have supported us.
